So many victims are desperate to escape their toxic environment, but without any assurance that there are practical solutions available to them when they do take that very first courageous step, their fear will keep them trapped. Sekwanele will travel through the province, especially tho those areas that have been identified as Gender Based Violence hotspots, to raise awareness of their services and that of like-minded organisations.

Invisible Scars – Emotional Abuse is an important topic but all too often neglected. Some people do not even realize that they are the victims of emotional abuse until it is too late. Unfortunately there are no laws against name calling, put downs and mind games and therefore this form of abuse is often overlooked. Through outreach programmes, the Sekwanele team have found most of these survivors not in shelters, but in the psychiatric wards in hospitals. In many ways emotional abuse is more psychologically harmful than physical abuse. We aim to do our part to decrease this form abuse by increasing awareness and compassion.

We realise that a survivors who have been living in a “war-zone” for a long period struggles with various psychological issues and often struggles to make important decisions and for that reason we offer therapeutic interventions through qualified staff and partners.

Through Sekwanele’s skills development programmes we aim to uplift the victims of abuse in shelters through skills development and we have developed a specialized recruitment and placement programme that places survivors in available employment positions in the province.

Together with the Beneficiaries Sekwanele hold discussions to establish the readiness for small business ventures. In some cases, the experience will be present but the knowledge and other skills will have to be fine-tuned.  It is compulsory for all interested beneficiaries to attend a Financial Management course prior to the enrolment in the New Venture Creation training.
